A Proverb a Day: Proverbs 5:15-19 Delight yourself in your own woman!

Life is peaceful if you stay in your own waters.

“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.”-Proverbs 5:15 KJV

These verses are a good reminder for any married man.  We know sometimes we can let our eyes run astray, but if we hold the word of God close to our hearts, we’ll be reminded to “let [the] breast [of our wife] satisfy thee at all times and be ravished always with her love.” vs 19.  It will sure keep us out of trouble.

Be wise.

Key to wealth…

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land produces. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with the finest wine.” -Proverbs 3:9 and 10

This is the key to wealth.  If we understand that all we have belongs to God it requires us to be good steward over all he has given us.  What are you doing with what the Lord has entrusted to you?  He says if we honor him with the best part, then he will fill…and overflow.

Now the question is, how do we honor the Lord with the wealth we’ve been given?

Be wise.

Wisdom…

Continue to seek wisdom in all you do.  Whatever you do in life be it move from one career to another, or whom your choice in spouse may be, or any major purchases such as a home, car, or business investment.  Seek the Lord, and he will lead and guide you in the best direction.

He may say no.  He may say yes.  He also may say wait.

Proverbs 2:2-4 says, “Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and understanding.  Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure.”

I like that.  See when we’ve lost some money, and a significant amount of money to us, we will turn our homes upside down, check bank statements 10 times or more looking for where our misplaced dollars have went.  That is how we are to seek God for wisdom.  Verse 6 says, “For the Lord Grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Seek the Lord, and Be wise.

A proverb a day: Proverbs 19:11 -Show restraint and be admired

“People with good sense restrain their anger; they earn esteem by overlooking wrongs.” Proverbs 19:11 NLT

How often do you overlook wrongs done to you?  Our proverb today encourages us to practice restraint.  Sometimes people or events in our lives can make it very difficult to hold back our anger, and our frustration gets the best of us, but remember there is a reward for your obedience to this proverb.  You will earn esteem, and people will begin to admire you.

Why do you think we honor Mr. Martin Luther King Jr. till this day?

Be wise.

A proverb a day: Proverbs 16:9 -Planning is good, but I think God chuckles.

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”  Proverbs 16:9 NLT

I think we as humans have in our minds the way our life should turn out.  So even the best of us do what we are told and write your goals down, and if we’re really good we commence to construct our plan to achieve them.  The funny thing is even though we make our plans, God is the one who determines if we’ll make it to our goal at all.

Sometimes I think He looks at me and laughes as I plan to take on this cold world.  As I sit and prepare my mind and work ethic for promotion to do this and that, He says to himself, “If only he knew,… that’s not where I want to take him…I have something so much better.”

Even as I write this I get chills, because as great as I think my plans may be, His plans are so much better.  We can’t even imagine how great.

Let me encourage you, yes to plan, but include God in on it with prayer, asking him earnestly if the direction you’re headed is where he wants you to go.  And when He answers don’t be surprised when He blows your mind.
