There is Sacrifice in Serving

Many people shy away from serving because there is an element of self-sacrifice. Either one believes him or herself to be too important to be serving others(pride), or serving cost more than we are willing to give.

Reading a verse from my daily scripture reading for today, Mark 10:44, brings me to tears at this moment.  It reads, “And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.” I cry because I see so many ministries, corporations, and organizations, littered with people vying to be chief.  Desiring so much to be above everyone else when the complete opposite is required.

We must serve first and foremost.  Our leading comes from our serving.  I look to my Lord and Savior Jesus as the example.  Verse 45 says, “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”  The King came to earth not to be served but to serve.  Since I am the King’s child I must behave as so.

Will you join me in serving?

#offeringsandsacrifices Will you read with me?

The month of April I will be posting readings from the bible pertaining to offerings and sacrifices. I am reminded of a scripture even now that says, “to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (1Samuel 15:22b)

Although sacrifice is necessary obedience is better.  If you think about it, obedience is a sacrifice, and a sacrifice that is one of the hardest to fulfill.  To obey God eventhough everyone in the world is mocking you.  To obey God eventhough you don’t see the outcome.  To obey God when the people closest to you offer every opportunity not to.  Obeying God in all things is truly the sacrifice of all sacrifices.

Jesus did it for us.  He was obedient to the Father even until the death of the cross.  Because of his obedience and His great sacrifice, you and I are afforded the opportunity to experience life and life more abundantly.

Just as Jesus obeyed, we are to obey God as well.  Sacrifice may bring crosses and crucifixions, but as Jesus was elevated later we will likewise if we faint not.

So please follow along on facebook and twitter and look for the hash tag: #offeringsandsacrifices as we take this journey through the month of April discovering what God says about offerings and sacrifices.

#Godkeepshisword So many promises I can’t count.

So many StrandsI have enjoyed a great deal reading through and meditating on the promises of God in this month of March, and I haven’t even skimmed the surface of what He has in store for us.  There are so many promises on top of promises interwoven together just for you.

We have two more days left in the month and then I will be moving on to my next “Read With Me” post for the month of April.  But till then I really want to make certain that we really understand that ‘the promises of God are yes, and in Him Amen.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)  Meaning they can be counted on.  You can take it to the bank.  It’s been signed in blood. (Literally)  He will not reverse what he has said. I like how the Bible says it in Malachi 3:6, “I am the Lord, I change not;…”

I love this because it reassures me that the Word of God can stand up to anything.  Any obstacle in life, there is a Word from the Lord that I can apply to it.  And it will either change the situation or change me for the better so I am able to take on the obstacle and get over it.

What promises of God are you counting on?

Why would people be this way? (Fake People)

I was reading briefly and reflecting on Proverbs 26 today, and when I reached verse 24 I was upset.  I don’t know why because I wasn’t surprised at what it said, but I am still trying to find out why human nature leans toward behaving this way.

It reads:  “People may cover their hatred with pleasant words, but they’re deceiving you.” NLT version

I want to know what makes us cover up our true intentions.  Why can’t we truly be real with one another.  I mean if we really don’t care for a person why can’t we just let them know and know why so that we can get passed the issue.  And who knows maybe the issue will be dealt with and you’ll no longer have to dislike that person.

Then it goes on to display even further the wickedness of a person in verse 25.  People go to the extreme of pretending.  Pretending to be kind.  Pretending to like what you have on. Pretending to agree with what you have said.  Pretending to be happy for your marriage, your successes or advances in life, etc.  These are the people I hear referred to as being fake.  They smile in your face while all the time trying to take your place.  The bible instructs in that same verse, “but don’t believe them. Their hearts are full of many evils.”  We are not to believe or trust those kinds of people, but how will we know what kind of people to watch out for?

Verse 26: “While their hatred may be concealed by trickery, their wrongdoing will be exposed in public.”

From reading this verse it tells me all I have to do is keep my eyes open.  All evil deeds will be discovered in the light of day.  Public exposure of the true fruit one bears can never be hidden forever.  So what then are we to do?  I propose that we make sure we are not this kind of person.  Love one another and even go as far as to love your enemies.  Love them enough to tell them why you don’t like them and maybe, just maybe you’ll make a friend.

Be wise.
