A Proverb a Day: Proverbs 4:24 – Watch yo mouth!

I wish I would have meditated on this word while I was in college, oh who am I kidding, I wish I would have meditated on this word last year, last month, and last week. There are times that I wish I could take back my words, but once they leave your mouth they can either be a blessing or a cursing.

So how can we do better? The proverb of the day says, (read aloud)

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

This text tells us plainly to put this froward, willfully contrary, and not easily managed mouth away. So how can we put it away. I say wash your mouth out, but not how your granny used to do it,

but let us wash it out with the word of God. I believe the more Word of God that we read, the more we read it aloud and hear it, the less we’ll be led to speak perversely. We will be less likely to gossip about others. We will be speaking more kind words in line with how our God would desire.

Be wise. And wash yo mouth with the Word.
